Reasons Why Writers Need To Get Paid

This video will show you the main reasons writers need and must get paid for the hard work they do. Without them, there would be no content based sites at all. As a blogger, copywriter and publisher myself, I am sometimes aghast at why some writers want you to write for their site in exchange for what they call the privilege and exposure factor. Well, at the end of the exposure is not a many to many relationship, and only lasts a short while. In the end…pay me!

Daily Doctrine: 10 Tips To Boost Your Blog Performance

September 16, 2010 by

While working from home as an internet marketer, I have found various tips to improve my blog performance. I am implementing these ideas in my business practices to improve my productivity, focus on my initiatives, and increase my speed to market.

10 Tips To Boost Your Blog Performance

Create a Blog Framework: This will allow you to categorize what your standard blog posts will be about. You are basically creating a vision for your blog. My blog framework consists of multiple categories, but based on 3 sections: 1.) Profit Pulse, 2.) Profit Lab, and 3.) ProfitDoctrine Premium.

Remove Distractions: Only answer email at a specific time of day. Put your phone on silent. Turn off the television. It may be good to take a 20 minute mediation break prior to starting so that you can visualize and focus on what you are about to do.

Clean Your Desk: The night before, ensure you clean your office space or work area, so that you a clean environment to work from. Sometimes, I like to work directly from my bed. I utilize a laptop platform that looks like I’m receiving breakfast in bed. But I ensure to have my bed made up, and then I begin to work. I also have office space, where I can go to at any time, and simply go to it & conduct business in an organize & efficient manner.

Musical Motivation: Music may not be for everyone. But some tunes can help stimulate the mind, motivate you, provide various ideas. It doesn’t really matter the type of music, but what is most interest to you.

Daily Schedule: Create a prioritization schedule. Write out what are the main priorities, what items are essential, and the non-priorities for the day only. Focus on each section separately, and complete those tasks in order. Once you get done with the priority tasks, your day will run much smoother & faster.

Outsource: If your funds are right, outsource the tasks that you either have trouble doing, or tasks that will take up time and that you want to get done right away. Outsourcing will allow you to focus on major tasks that need to get done.

Research: The mind needs to be stimulated with information. You should have a set of research sites, materials or information that you look at prior to blogging for the day. This will allow you to spark new ideas, and provide you an idea of what’s happening out there in the interwebs.

Plan For Tomorrow: At the end of the day, plan out your strategy for tackling any issues. Write out your daily schedule. Prepare anything today so that you can jump right to it tomorrow. This is the process of being efficient.

Have Fun: Sometimes, you need to take a small break. Since you are working from home, you may not be getting out too much as a blogger. Rent a Netflix move, take a walk, or go jogging. Sometimes, you have to get away to come back 10 x times stronger.

Many people have asked, what is the best online business model they can use to start their online business. Your online business model should reference the way your company will capture, create, and deliver value while ensuring a stable method to generate revenue through its strategies, offerings, business structure, infrastructure, operational processes, policies and trading practices. In short, an online business model consists of the daily functions that operate and enhance your internet business.

This episode of the Daily Doctrine will be first in a series of articles on online business models. I will provide a basic overview of the top 10 online business models for internet entrepreneurs that can literally be started today. In future series, I will discuss and expand on these business models deeper.

What Online Business Model Are You Using Today?

It’s good to get feedback from our readers to get an understanding of what business model you have chosen for your business. Leave a comment and based on the Top 10 Online Business Models I wrote about, provide which one best fits your current organization the best.

  1. Blogging:
    • Operations: Consists of developing content and media for people to read.  There are many blogging platforms available so that a blogger can distribute their work, such as: WordPress, Blogger.com, MovableType, are just a few.
    • Revenue Generation: Revenue can be generated through multiple channels, but many utilize Google Adwords, sponsorship advertising, and private placement ads.
  2. Affiliate Marketing:
    • Operations: Many affiliates in their online business model operate through email marketing, media buys, PPC or CPA advertising.
    • Revenue Generation:  Consists of practices and actions where one business will reward an “affiliate” for marketing or advertising their products or services for a percentage or portion of the revenue generated by the affiliate and given by the business.
  3. Information Product Development:
    • Operations:  In an online business model, operations would consist of market research, digital e-book creation, graphic design, digital media creation, sales letter development, copywriting, web development,
    • Revenue Generation: Creating information products is most likely the largest share of revenue for any online business model.  Revenue is generated through the sales, affiliate sales, continuity and subscription streams.
  4. E-Commerce:
    • Operations:  Many people get e-commerce confused with the concepts of an “online business” or even information products.  E-commerce deals with the transactions of how people pay and receive goods and services online.  With e-commerce, you can sell and distribute digital as well as physical products.  The operations usually consists of having an online storefront, and the mechanisms to pay for transactions are tools such as:  PayPal, Plimus, E-Junkie.  Some examples of e-commerce websites are: Amazon.com, Ebay.com, etc.
    • Revenue Generation:  For revenue generation to occur in e-commerce, you need to put your system together which consists of a basic storefront to sell your products or services, and a stable payment mechanism.  Revenue is generated by the sale of the goods and services through an online shopping cart.
  5. Software Development:
    • Operations:  This is a technical area of online business models, whereas, the development of software can be seen as a technical role.  There are basically two types of software, and that is: 1.) Systems based software and 2.) Application based software.  Systems based software deals with interactions with your computer, and Application based software deals with the end-user in mind.  For example, spreadsheets, databases, and word processing.  In application software, the operations consist of developing, designing, programming code to be delivered on an interface such as a web browser or disk.
    • Revenue Generation: Revenue can be made on the sales of working software, on the development of the software, or even consulting on ideas various types of software applications.
  6. Professional Services:
    • Operations:  Functions in the area of professional services include consulting, managing customers, delivery management, customer service and administration.  It can also include coaching, mentoring whereas all these functions can take place online.
    • Revenue Generation:  Revenue can be generated as a fee per service, or an hourly fee for the services performed.  Subscription or membership revenue can be generated for items such as coaching or consulting as a service.
  7. Website Flipping:
    • Operations:  The functions of a web site flipper are simply to create a valuable web property and sell it at the price the market is willing to bear.  Actions include researching the market, developing a high quality website in a specific niche, and selling in through an online marketplace or brokerage.  There is really only one main online marketplace that is doing this well, and that is Flippa.com.
    • Revenue Generation: The focus on website flipping should be ROI (Return on Investment).  It takes time as well as money in the form of creating the site, and even listing the site.  Therefore, as a website flipper, you need to be cognizant on your returns or otherwise break-even or lose money.  If you are able to create a website that is generating revenue, it is a good rule of thumb to have the ability to sell that site between 12 x times the yearly revenue.  You can sometimes even get your sale up to 24 x times the revenue – depends on the value that your site provides.
  8. Publishing Networks:
    • Operations:  Publishing networks consists of creating a network of blogs or web properties.  You can create a niche network of blogs and sell advertising or utilize Google Adwords, or create niche web properties that are selling a product or service.  The goal is to create multiple revenue streams.
    • Revenue Generation:  Revenue is generated either by selling ads, continuity income, sales of products or services.  The more networks you have, the more revenue that can be generated.
  9. Advertising:
    • Operations: This consists of creating your own ad network and distributing ads for various advertisers and publishers.  Operations include developing or implementing an ad platform, advertiser and publisher recruitment, ensuring ads are being distributed properly over the network, customer service, and ensuring payouts have no problems.
    • Revenue Generation:  Revenue is generated by either a listing fee, service fees, or a percentage of revenue received either on the advertiser or publisher ends.
  10. Auctions:
    • Operations:  Finding products that can be sold to the highest bidder.  Basically, the concept is wholesaling and reselling through an online mechanism.
    • Revenue Generation:  Revenue is generated similar to the concept of website flipping.  But after paying a listing fee, you generate revenue through selling high and buying low.

This is the first in the series of Online Business Models.  I will be further going into more details of each model, specifically how to set them up, the best methods and strategies for generating revenue.  I need your help in getting an understanding of what your business is like and any problems you may be seeing so that I can construct this series well to your liking.  So be sure to answer the question above and leave a detailed comment about your online business model.
